A closer look at everyday life, learning, support, and community at Hawbridge.
Hawbridge schedules vary by grade and campus, but the school day combines core academic learning with opportunities for collaboration, enrichment, outdoor learning, and experiences that connect classroom study to the broader community. Lower School students experience structured academic blocks alongside specials, lunch, recess, and flexible learning time, while Upper School schedules become more individualized as students progress through their courses.
Class sizes are intentionally kept relatively small. Upper School classes are generally in the low twenties, with some much smaller courses depending on enrollment and student schedules. Smaller learning communities are an important part of Hawbridge’s relationship-centered approach.
Technology is used as one tool among many. Students may use digital resources for assignments, research, communication, and course management, while learning also includes discussion, hands-on work, outdoor experiences, collaborative projects, and place-based activities.
Outdoor learning is woven into the Hawbridge experience. Lower School students have outdoor time as part of the school day, and teachers across grade levels may use outdoor spaces for purposeful instruction. Older students may also encounter courses and experiences connected to outdoor leadership, horticulture, environmental science, and other place-based learning opportunities.
Hawbridge does not operate a traditional cafeteria. Students may bring food from home and have access to refrigerators and microwaves. The school also permits meal-delivery options and currently provides lunch-ordering opportunities through outside vendors. Because offerings can change, families should check the Lunch Program page for the most current information.
Students encounter visual arts, music, theater, outdoor learning, leadership, and other enrichment opportunities throughout their Hawbridge experience. Upper School students may pursue more advanced arts coursework and participate in theater productions, while opportunities across grade levels help students explore interests beyond traditional academic subjects.
Hawbridge provides special education and related supports through its Exceptional Children program. Families who have questions about existing services, Child Find, accommodations, or whether a student may need additional support can contact the school’s EC staff for guidance.
School counselors support students’ academic, social-emotional, and developmental needs. Depending on student needs, support may include individual short-term counseling, small-group work, classroom guidance, academic planning, conflict support, and connections to community resources when additional services are appropriate.
Hawbridge places a strong emphasis on relationships and community. Faculty, school counselors, student leaders, and classmates all play a role in helping new students find connections, understand routines, and become part of school life.
Transportation arrangements vary by family and school year. Families commonly coordinate carpools and other transportation plans with one another. For current transportation information or questions about arrival and dismissal procedures, contact the appropriate Hawbridge campus office.
Students may begin participating in Hawbridge sports in grade 6. Available sports and seasons can change from year to year, so families should use the Sports page for current teams, schedules, coaches, eligibility information, and required forms.
Upper School students increasingly personalize their academic experience through course choices, advanced and honors opportunities, arts, outdoor and place-based learning, sports, internships, leadership, and preparation for life after Hawbridge. Course availability and graduation planning are outlined in the current High School Planning Guide.
PASTA—the Parent Administrator Student Teacher Association—offers families opportunities to connect, participate, support school programs, attend meetings, contribute to fundraising projects, and stay involved in the Hawbridge community.
