Plates for a Purpose is a fundraiser for The Hawbridge School. 

Did you know? Charter School funding averages up to 30% less than traditional public school funding; donations from families both help close that gap and leverage grant funds by demonstrating community investment in our school.

About Us

The Hawbridge School is a tuition-free, public K–12 Title I charter school located in Saxapahaw, NC, serving students across multiple counties. We are
committed to providing high-quality, project-based, interdisciplinary education that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and community connection. Many
of our students face food insecurity, and currently:

  • The school does not provide lunch
  • Snacks are sustained solely through family donations
  • We do not expect families experiencing food insecurity to fill the gap themselves.

Our Goal

Raise $40,000 to establish a sustainable food access program:

Offer lunch and snacks at low or no cost to students

Ensure every child learns nourished and ready to succeed

Build long-term systems to support families equitably

About Plates for a Purpose

Each year, communities across the country gather for Empty Bowls events to fight hunger at the local level. Guests share a simple meal, take home a handmade bowl, and remember that too many bowls in our community remain empty.

At The Hawbridge School, Plates for a Purpose directly supports:

  • The creation of a school-wide lunch program ensuring all students can
    enjoy healthy, reliable meals.
  • Stocking the Hawbridge Food Pantries at both the Lower and Upper School throughout the year.

Funds raised will help us fill every student’s plate, and every heart, with care.
