Hawbridge Community,
We are excited to share that the Hawbridge School will be moving forward with a school expansion. At the last meeting, the Board voted to approve pursuing the expansion with a planned opening in Fall 2020. We are still awaiting final loan approval and hope to receive that in September. Now the real effort begins, and we will be working with the community, faculty, and students as we develop and finalize detailed plans. The current facility will focus on K-6 grades. A new facility across the road where the parking lot/field is will focus on 7-12 grades and will also have a gymnasium/multifunction space for all grades.
We believe this expansion will secure the future of Hawbridge and will make more resources available so that the amazing education our school provides can be continued and even improve. Although the expansion will bring many opportunities, this type of growth will also force us all to remember what makes Hawbridge special as we work to ensure that continues and is supported throughout the project and into the future. As expressed in the Hawbridge vision statement, we seek to provide “an enduring, intimate and caring community of educators, parents, and students, working together to create an environment where all students thrive [through] a school of excellence built on a foundation of inclusiveness, mutual respect, personal attention, exploration, an inspired and inspiring faculty, and community engagement, with special emphasis on environmental stewardship and the arts.”
Special thanks to the Jordan family and to Doug Williams and Claire Haslam for their generous donation of land, which makes this expansion possible. We are truly grateful for their commitment to the Saxapahaw community and support of the Hawbridge School as a special part of that community. More details will be coming soon, and we look forward to working with everyone as we expand the Hawbridge School’s resources and continue providing excellent place-based education with a focus on environment and the arts.
Thank you,
