In the season of the Thanksgiving holiday, I wanted to say thanks to you for entrusting us with your most prized possession–your children. We have seen more of our students these first few months than we did at this time last year–which is a good thing. Our collective efforts on attendance have proven to be beneficial. Our first quarter attendance rate is up as compared to the first quarter of last year. This is truly a collective effort and we appreciate your diligence in sending your children to school on time–and as often as possible. As a reminder to how important school attendance truly is, please read the following facts as reported by AttendanceWorks.org:
- Research shows that missing 10 percent of the school year, or about 18 days, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days per month of the school year and can be labeled as chronic absenteeism.
- Furthermore, the academic impact of missing that much school is the same whether those absences are considered excused or unexcused. Missed instructional time can be detrimental, no matter the reason for the absence.
Let’s continue our efforts to improve our school attendance and allow our students to access as much of The Hawbridge experience as possible.
